This day is remembered as a day to celebrate the life and deeds of St. James. He is also considered as the patron saint of Spain. It is considered to be a fact that the remains of Saint James is held at the Santiago de Compostela in Galicia. St. James was the son of Zebedee and was also known as one of the first apostles of Jesus. Saint James had gone to Spain to evangelize the people of god and he was also the first person to establish a Christian community over there.
This day is believed to be the day when Jesus Christ was taken up to the heaven. This event took place forty days after Jesus Christ was resurrected from the dead. Jesus was first crucified and then he rose up on the third day. 40 days post this even occurred, Jesus Christ was then carried away to heaven in the clouds.
This day signifies the day when the Holy Spirit descends upon the followers of Jesus Christ. It is written in the Bible that the apostles started speaking in tongues after the Holy Spirit descended on them. The incident is described in the Bible in the book of Acts Chapter 2 Verses 1-31. The occasion is commemorated as a sacred day among various churches across the world and is celebrated as a day of feast.
The scriptures : The bible is the inspired word of God , the product of the holy men of old who spoke and wrote as they were moved by the Holy spirit. The new covenant as recorded in the new Testament, we accept as our infallible guide in matters pertaining to conduct and doctrine(II Timothy 3:16, I Thess 2:13, II Peter 1:21)
